NEWPORT, RI (April 6, 2012) - After the first 18-holes of competition at the 2012 New England Division I Championship, the Sacred Heart Pioneers sit in fifth place, 11 stroke off the lead heading into Saturday's final round.
The Pioneers shot a team score of 313 on the par 72, 7,244 yard Newport National Country Club. The University of Hartford leads the field after an opening 302. CCSU sits in second at 304, Fordham in third at 306 and Rhode Island in fourth at 309. Rounding out the eight team field was Bryant in sixth at 322, Providence in seventh at 344 and Boston Univiersity in eighth with a 363.
Junior Josh Salah (Gloucester, MA) was the Pioneers top-golfer on Friday, shooting a three-over 75 on the opening 18 holes, good for a fifth place tie. Freshman Sam Barber sits tied for ninth on the leader board after carding a 76 on Friday.
The final round will be played on Saturday afternoon.
