(Hartford, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Golf team finished tied for second out of 18 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational this week. The Pioneers made a nice comeback after being in seventh place after day 1. Peter Ballo (Stamford, CT) led the way for the Pioneers, finishing second by shooting an impressive 73, 74, and 67 for a three-day overall score of 214 (-2). Ballo's third round 67 was the lowest round shot by anyone in the competition.
The Pioneers shot 895 as a team, tying Boston College for second place. SHU's top five included Sam Barber (T-11th – 222), Josh Salah (T-30th – 229), Will Smittle(T-32th - 230), and Ross Kronberg (88th – DNF). SHU finished ahead of both other NEC teams that participated in the invitational, Central Connecticut (14th – 932) and Bryant (15th – 938). SHU also finished above cross-town rival Fairfield (9th – 921)
Host Hartford won the tournament with an overall team score of 866, while Temple's Brandon Matthews took home the individual gold. Sacred Heart will be in action next at the McDonald cup held at Yale University.
