DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season on Tuesday with a second-place finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Pioneers shot a combined +55 for the tournament, four strokes behind tournament winners LIU Brooklyn who had a +51. Sacred Heart did have the best team round of the five schools on Tuesday, with a +29 317. Robert Morris finished third, followed by Bryant and St. Francis Brooklyn. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) was the Pioneers' top individual performer, posting a final round 79 to finish the tournament at +12. Peter Ballo (Stamford, Conn.) was one of three golfers in seventh with a two-day score of +15, as was Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario). Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) finished in 10th at +16.
Sacred Heart is back in action on April 5th for the first round of the Rhody Invitational.
