Men’s Golf in Seventh Place After Saturday’s First Two Rounds of NEC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After rain washed out the opening round of the Northeast Conference Championship Friday, the Sacred Heart men's golf team finished Saturday in seventh place after playing 36 holes at LPGA International.

Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario) was the Pioneers' low scorer on Saturday, carding rounds of 75 and 74 to place tied for 11th. Barber was one-under on the back nine in his second round. Pete Ballo (Stamford, Conn.) also shot a 74 in his second round after posting a 79 earlier in the day, finishing the day tied for 22nd. Joshua Salah (Gloucester, Mass.) had rounds of 74 and 79 on Saturday to also put him in the tie for 22nd. Will Smittle (Scarsdale, N.Y.) rounded out Sacred Heart's scoring group on Saturday. After carding an 86 in his first round, Smittle fired a 73 later in the day. In his second round, Smittle was three-under through five holes. He is in 34th place after 36 holes.

Sacred Heart cut nine strokes from the first round to the second round with a combined score of 609, 33-over par. The Pioneers are one stroke ahead of eighth place Bryant. LIU Brooklyn leads with a team score of +17, three shots clear of Fairleigh Dickinson. Robert Morris is in third at +21, followed by Saint Francis U and Central Connecticut State.

The final round will be played Sunday morning.
