Men’s Golf Tied For 2nd After Opening Round Of CCSU Invitational

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's golf team opened its 2013-14 season on Sunday with the opening round of the CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course. The Pioneers finished the day in a tie for second place with a team score of +15.

Redshirt-Junior Peter Ballo (Stamford, Conn.) was the Pioneers' low scorer on the day, carding a one-over 71 to put him tied for fourth individually. Juniors Sam Barber (North Bay, Ontario) and Dominic Formato (Queens, N.Y.) each had four-over 74s on the day, placing them tied for 12th. Freshman A.J. Correia (Bedford, N.H.) rounded out the scoring group with a 76 in the first round. Ballo and Formato each had a team-high three birdies in the opening round.

The Pioneers are tied with St. Peter's and Laval for second place after the opening round, with each team totaling 295 strokes. Bryant leads the tournament after posting a team score of +4, 284 on Sunday. Hofstra rounds out the top five, followed by the host Central Connecticut State, Saint Francis U, Bentley, Iona, and Manhattan.

The final round of the tournament will be played Monday morning.
