ELLINGTON, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished with a team score of 36-over, 900 to tie for 11th at the annual Connecticut Cup held at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
Senior Matt Shubley shot an impressive one-under, 215 to tie for third overall over the three-round event. He fired a career single-round low of 70 in the second round & a one-over 73 in the final round. Shubley finished among the tournament leaders in pars with 15 and finished just two strokes off the top spot. Junior Alex Manner bounced back after the rain filled opening round with a career-low round of 71 in round two. He carded a 74 in the final round on Tuesday to finish tied for 47th at 9-over. Freshman Saptak Talwar also turned in stellar second & third round as scored a three-over 75 followed by an even par 72 this afternoon to tie for 54th at 11-over. Junior Hector Gutierrez scored back-to-back rounds of 77 to close out the tournament tied for 77th at +18. Senior Tom D'Andrea closed out the Pioneers group at 21-over to tie for 83rd.
Sacred Heart carded the best three-round score of the fall with a 900, including a low-round of 293 in round two. Tournament host, UConn took the team title with an even par, 864. Cornell and Rhode Island rounded out the top three.
The Pioneers close out the fall slate October 16-17 at The Metropolitan Intercollegiate at Montclair Golf Club held at Montclair Golf Club in Orange, N.J.
