March 28, 2010

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Sacred Heart men's golf team sat in third place, six strokes out of first, starting the second round of the Hawk Invitational hosted by Monmouth University. The Pioneers shaved nine points of their first round scoring total, shooting a 292, and running away from the field to win by 12 strokes at 593.

Saint Francis (PA), Rider, and Bucknell tied for second place with final totals of 605.

Sophomore Joseph Serrentino (Cromwell, CT) came back from a first round 80 to fire a team-best 72 on Sunday. The four Pioneer scores that counted, in fact, total just four-over par combined.

Freshman Josh Salah (Gloucester, MA) and sophomore Leo Garcia (Guaynabo, PR) shot a pair of one-over 73's while David Renski (N. Stonington, CT) finished with a 74. Salah finished fifth in the medalist race with a 146 total. Renski was fifth and Garcia seventh. Serrentino finished just out of the top ten in 12th.

The Pioneers are back in action on April 3 at the Yale Invitational in New Haven.
