Men's Golf Second After First Day of NE Championships

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Sacred Heart men's golf team sits just three strokes behind the University of Connecticut in second place out of 12 teams at the New England Division I Golf Championships being played at Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence on Saturday.

The Pioneer team total of 296 is one stroke better than Rhode Island in third, and three ahead of the University of Hartford in fourth. Central Connecticut is in fifth with a 306 total.

Sophomore Leo Garcia (Guaynabo, PR) led the Pioneers with a two-under 70, just one stroke behind leader Matt Dubrowski of UConn in the individual medalist race. Junior Andrew Strom (Endwell, NY) was next for the Pioneers with a 74, sitting in seventh place. Sophomore Brad Neudorf (Virgil, Ontario) fired a 75 and is in 9th place, while freshman Josh Salah had a 77.

The final round tees off tomorrow morning. SHU will start at 9:45.
