Pioneer Men's Golf Two Strokes Off Lead After Day Two at NEC Championships

CHAMPIONSGATE, Fla. (May 1, 2010) - Sacred Heart freshman Joshua Salah (Gloucester, MA) finished round two as the individual leader at the 2010 Northeast Conference Championship at the ChampionsGate Golf Club and has the Pioneers position second overall, just two strokes off the lead heading into the final round on Sunday. Salah is sitting at even par (71-73) after two round and holds a two stroke lead on the 54 golfer field.

The Pioneers trimmed six strokes off their Friday team round of 306 to fire a 300 on Saturday, the low combined score of round two. SHU trails day one leader Robert Morris heading into the final round. The Colonials have posted rounds of 300 and 304. Right on SHU's heels is the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash with a two round score of 608 (303-305).

Salah shot a 73 on Saturday, one over on the par 72, 6,937 yard course. Sophomore Joseph Serrantino (Cromwell, CT) is tied for 13th overall with a two day combined score of 152 (79-73), after taking six strokes off his Friday score with a 73 on Saturday.

Sophomore Leopoldo Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and junior David Renski (North Stonington, CT) round out the Pioneer top-four, both tied for 22nd overall. Garcia shot a 73 on Saturday after carding an 84 on Friday. Renski posted an 83 during Saturday afternoon's round.

The tournament will conclude on the Sunday with the final 18-holes teeing off at 7:30 am. The Pioneers are looking to capture their third-straight NEC title heading into the final day of play.
