BREWSTER, MA - Freshman Josh Salah (Gloucester, MA) finished with a two-over 146 to help the Sacred Heart men's golf team finish in a ninth-place tie in the 75th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers were tied for fifth after the first round of the tournament, but that result was later changed when Adam Petraovic, who shot a 73 in the round, had his score disqualfied. Because of the ruling, the Pioneers had his score replaced with a 79 by Joseph Serretino (Cromwell, CT), causing SHU to lose six strokes.
The Pioneers shaved four shots of their first round total of 310 and finished tied with Fairfield University at 616. UConn won the event with a 582 total, followed by Central Connecticut at 588 and Darmouth at 591.
Salah shot a 71 on the par-72 Captain's Golf Course on Tuesday, four shots better than his opening-round 75. David Renski (N. Stonington, CT) and Bradley Neudorf (Virgil, Ontario) were the next lowest score for the Pioneers with matching 156's. Serrentino finished two strokes back at 158.
