Men's Ice Hockey Back in Action at Colgate Saturday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sacred Heart hits the road for a non-conference contest at Colgate on Saturday October 30. The puck drops at the Starr Rink at 4:00 pm.

About the Pioneers... Through the first four games of the season, Sacred Heart is still seeking its first win of 2010-11. The Pioneers are 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 following a home series against Canisius which saw them fall in their home opener before coming away with a point in game two. Senior David Berube and Patrick Knowlton each lead the team in scoring with three points, apiece. Knowlton has netted a pair of goals, while Berube has dished out two assists. In the cage, sophomore goaltender Steven Legatto has posted a .877 save percentage and a 4.83 goals against average.

Scouting the Raiders... Colgate won its season opener against Brock University 3-2, but since have dropped a pair of contests to Lake Superior State to enter this afternoon's contest at 1-2. Leading the Raiders in scoring is senior Brian Day with four scores and two helpers in three games. Classmate Francois Brisebois has collected a team-best five assists, while junior Austin Smith has added three helpers and a goal of his own. Junior netminder Alex Evin owns a .912 save percentage and a 2.67 GAA.

Last Time They Met... The Pioneers and the Raiders have not been on the ice together since October 2007. In that match-up, Colgate earned a 6-2 victory on its home ice. Reade Wolansky and Eric Giosa each netted a power play goal for SHU in the loss. Ethan Cox led the way for the Raiders with two goals, while Tyler Burton dished out three assists and added a score of his own.

Vs. Colgate All-Time... Sacred Heart is winless in its previous six tries against Colgate. The two teams first met in October 2000, a game that was won by the Raiders, 8-2. In the brief history between the two schools only once have the Pioneers hosted Colgate. That game was a 7-2 loss in December 2003.

Pioneers at Harbor Yard... Sacred Heart and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, have teamed up to play five doubleheaders at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport throughout the season. The first game at the arena is November 6 at 3:30 pm vs. AIC. The Pioneers will also play games in Bridgeport on January 8 vs. Air Force, February 5 vs. Bentley, and February 20 vs. Holy Cross. The team's senior day will also be held at the arena on February 26 against Army.

Tyll Joins Broadcast Team... Former SHU hockey player Kyle Tyll ('09) has officially joined the Pioneer Sports Network as a member of the men's ice hockey broadcast team. Tyll, who will provide color commentary at home games, skated in 146 games during his career and tallied 15 goals and 23 assists, primarily at center.
