Pioneers Tripped Up By Robert Morris 5-1

(Moon Township, PA) – R.J. Boyd (Punta Gorda, FL) scored his first collegiate goal, but the Robert Morris Colonials beat the Sacred Heart Pioneer men's hockey team 5-1 Saturday night.

After skating through a scoreless first period, the Colonials used three second period goals to go ahead for good.  James Lyle scored on the power play at 5:49 to open the scoring, followed by Colin South's tally at the10:23 mark and Denny Urban's one-time blast at 14:46.  Boyd put the Pioneers on the board with a goal-mouth pass that deflected off a Colonials' defenseman and through the five-hole of RMU goalie Brooks Ostergard (30 saves) with 1:23 left in the second.  Chris Brown (Sherrills Ford, NC) and Chad Filteau (Regina, SK) got the assists.

However, RMU made it a four-goal cushion in the third period on goals by Zach Hervato at 6:54 and Adam Brace at 10:48.  Nathan Longpre set up four of the Colonials' five goals on the night.

Robert Morris outshot Sacred Heart 36-31 for the game, with Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) making 28 saves for the game and Olivier St. Onge (Wickham, QB) stopping all three shots he faced in relief.

The Pioneers return to action when they host the Holy Cross Crusaders Friday, November 19 at the Milford Ice Pavilion at 7:05 p.m.
