(West Point, NY) - Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) scored a goal and added an assist for the Sacred Heart men's hockey team in the Pioneers' 4-4 tie with the Army Black Knights Saturday night.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the first on a goal by Tye Lewis (Vancouver, WA), with Delong assisting on the goal at 10:06 of the first. However, Army came back to tie and take the lead in the second on two goals by Denny Colvin, the first of which came just 1:07 into the period and the other at the 5:28 mark.
Delong then tied the back-and-forth affair with an unassisted goal at the 8:51 mark for his second of the season. However, Army retook the lead only 36 seconds later on a goal by Kyle Maggard to make it a 3-2 lead for the Black Knights.
The Pioneers then tied and went ahead in the third, beginning with a power play goal by Evan Mladenoff (Leawood, KS) 2:45 into the final period. Ryan Miniaci (Monroe, CT) set up the game-tying goal. Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) followed with his first goal as a Pioneer, picking up a loose puck off his initial blocked shot and firing it home to give SHU a 4-3 lead at the 8:48 mark. However, Army got the equalizer on a power play goal by Marcel Alvarez at 12:54.
Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) made 36 saves in net for SHU to earn the tie.
The Pioneers do not have to wait long or travel far for their next action. They visit the #5 Yale Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 pm.
