HAVERHILL, Mass. - Sophomore forward Eric Delong (Oakville, Man.) was one of three players named Co-Player of the Week by the Atlantic Hockey Association, while senior netminder Olivier St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) was chosen as the league's Goalie of the Week.
Delong posted four points in a 1-1 weekend for the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team. All four points came in a 5-1 win over Army at the Arena at Harbor Yard, Saturday afternoon. Delong scored twice and picked up a pair of assists in the win. His first goal of the day tied the game at one, just 29 seconds after Army took the first lead, late in the first period. At the 2:44 mark of the second, made a move into the offensive zone and setup junior linemate Matt Gingera (Winnipeg, Man.) for the eventual game-winning score.
Delong finished the regular season leading the Pioneers in points with 27, including a team-best 18 assists, along with nine scores. Canisius senior Cory Conacher and Niagara senior Paul Zanette shared the weekly honor with Delong.
St. Onge got the call to start in Saturday's contest against the Black Knights on "Senior Day" and earned his second win of the season. Between the pipes, he tied his career-high with 36 saves, while giving up just the one score in his eighth start of the season. For the season, St. Onge totaled 343 saves and posted a 3.95 goals against average.
The Pioneers skate again this weekend in the AHA First Round as they visit Bentley for a 7:05 pm contest at the JAR in Watertown, Mass.
