Men's Hockey Loses OT Heartbreaker to AIC 3-2

(Milford, CT) – Adam Pleskach scored his second of the game at 2:37 of overtime to lift the AIC Yellow Jackets to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Sacred Heart University Men's Hockey team Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets were awarded a five-minute power play with 1:06 left in regulation of a tie game on a major elbowing penalty to Jordan Ciccarello (New Hartford, CT).  The Pioneers were spared two minutes of that power play when Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) was tripped by Neilsson Arcibal at center to prevent a shorthanded breakaway opportunity for the Pioneer captain.  Arcibal would come out of the box in OT and find Pleskach with a pass from the near half boards to the far post for the one-timer and game winner.

The Pioneers opened a 2-0 in the first that they carried all the way to deep into the third.  Brian Sheehan scored his seventh on the season, streaking down the left wing on a feed from Mitchell Stretch (Saskatoon, SK) for a blast under the glove-side crossbar.  Neil Fachini (East Hartford, CT) picked up the secondary assist on the goal at 6:24.

Drew George (Regina, SK) gave SHU a two-goal lead at 14:27 with a quick wrist shot from the near half boards on the power play, with Jared Eng (West Vancouver, BC) picking up the first point of his college career with the assist.

AIC began their comeback at 12:53 of the third when Pleskach knocked in a rebound off a scrum in front started by a right-point shot by Rob Blanchette, with Arcibal also getting an assist.  The Yellow Jackets tied it with 2:22 left on a goal awarded to Jake Williams, who snuck in the equalizer just before the net came dislodged on a shot by Blanchette following the initial shot by Mike Penny.

Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) took a tough-luck loss after making 36 saves and playing very well once again in net for the Pioneers.

SHU returns to the ice to take on Bentley in a home-and-home series next weekend, traveling to Watertown, MA on Friday, Feb.3 at 7:05 pm before hosting the Falcons at Webster Bank Arena on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4:00 pm.
