Troy, NY – The Pioneers end 2012 with a tough 6-2 lost at RPI. The Pioneers fall to 0-15-2 on the season, while the Engineers improve to 6-7-4 on the season.
The Engineers started the scoring off at 7:16 in the 1st period when sophomore leading scorer Jacob Laliberte found the back of the net on a power play. Laliberte was assisted by sophomores Ryan Haggerty and Matt Neal. The Pioneers fought back and evened the score at one with a goal from senior captain Eric Delong (Oakville, MB) at 14:56 in the first period. Delong was assisted by sophomore Drew George (Regina, SK). RPI grabbed the lead for the final time at 18:02 in the first when freshman Milos Bubela lit the lamp to make the score 2-1. The Engineers scored the next three to completely take control of the Pioneers.
CJ Lee grabbed the 3-1 lead for the Engineers at 0:53 of the second period on a power play goal, assisted by sophomore Curtis Leonard and freshman Mike Zalewski. Senior Greg Burgdoerfer elongated the Engineers lead, to 4-1 at 6:09 of the second period. Burgdoerfer was helped by senior Nick Bailen. A 5-1 lead was attained by the Engineers at 8:40 of the second period by another goal by Bubela. Bubela was assisted by Leonard and Bailen. The Pioneers cut the lead to 5-2 at 17:27 in the second period. Freshman Josh Phillips (Toronto, ON) beat the goalie on assists by senior Ben Ketchum (Greenwich, CT) and sophomore Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO).
The Engineers snagged the last goal at 10:49 in the third period to finish the scoring at 6-2. Zalewski finished it off from assists by Lee and Bubela.
The Pioneers start 2013 with a match-up with Colgate on January 4th.
