Men's Hockey Travels to Colgate for a Two Game Series

 

Setting the Scene...The Sacred Heart Pioneers are on the road again, traveling to Colgate College for a non-conference game against the Raiders. The Pioneers are looking for their first win of the season, while the Engineers are looking for their fourth straight win.

Pioneers in AHA Play...The Pioneers are 108-117-31 in this their tenth year of play in the Atlantic Hockey Association. While they are looking for their first AHA title, they have been to the conference championship twice, falling 4-0 to Holy Cross in the inaugural season of 2003-04 and 6-1 to RIT in 2009-10. SHU posted its best conference record in 2005-06, when the Pioneers went 18-8-2 in AHA play.

Delong and Sheehan Lead the Way...Seniors Brian Sheehan and Eric Delong lead the team with 15 points a piece. Sheehan comes in to the game with a nine game point streak.

Delong Hits 100...Senior captain Eric Delong registered a goal and an assist in a 5-2 loss to RIT on December 8th, giving him 100 points for his career. He is the 12th player in program history to reach 100 for his career. Delong now has 101 points.

Last Time Out...The Pioneers were defeated by the RPI Engineers on New Years Eve, by a score of 6-2. Senior Brian Sheehan earned an assist to extend his point streak to nine games. Delong and freshman Josh Phillips each notched a goal.

 

Legatto All-Time SHU Saves Leader...No goalie in SHU Hockey history has stopped more pucks than Steven Legatto, who broke the all-time SHU Saves record last year. He has 3,017 saves in his career.

Scouting the Raiders...Colgate comes into this weekend red hot, having only lost once in their last seven games and are currently on a three game win streak. The Raiders biggest win came against #5 Quinnipiac, a a 5-1 win on October 27th. The Raiders also boast wins over #8 Dartmouth and #18 Niagara.
 
All-Time vs. Colgate...SHU is 0-7 all-time against Colgate. They last met on Sepetember 30th 2010, a 5-0 victory for the Raiders at Starr Rink. The Pioneers are 14-42 all-time in games against the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. SHU has lost to two other ECAC schools this season, Princeton and RPI.
