Men's Hockey Wraps Up Regular Season With Series Against Connecticut

Setting the Scene... After having its three-game unbeaten streak snapped Monday night, the Sacred Heart men's hockey team wraps up the regular season with a home-and-home series against the UConn Huskies.

Seniors looking to end it how they started... The SHU Hockey Class of 2013 will be honored prior to Saturday's game against UConn.  As freshmen, defensemen Alex Stuart and Mitchell Stretch, forwards Eric Delong, Tommy Castonguay, and Kyle Verbeek, and goalie Steven Legatto all were key contributors to the Sacred Heart's second place finish, school record 12-game unbeaten streak, and trip to the AHA Championship Game.  Legatto set the single-season school record with 19 wins as a freshman while also posting a 3.10 GAA and .907 SV%.  Ben Ketchum, Doug MacLean, and Neil McKenney will also be honored.

Last Time Out... Sacred Heart saw its three-game unbeaten streak snapped Monday night with a 4-2 loss at Holy Cross at the Hart Center. The Pioneers led 2-0 early in the second period, but the Crusaders scored four unanswered goals and outshot Sacred Heart 34-11 in the final two periods. Kyle Verbeek had a goal and an assist in the game while Tommy Castonguay had two assists.

Centers of Attention... Sacred Heart's starting four centers - Eric Delong, Chad Filteau, Ben Lake, and Tommy Castonguay - have combined for 17 points in the last four games. Delong has led the group with six points on a goal and five assists. Filteau has scored four goals with an assist, while Castonguay has four assists. Ben Lake scored two goals in the last four games. Castonguay had two assists Monday night at Holy Cross. 

Barthelmess and Filteau Filling It Up... Chad Filteau and Chad Barthelmess have combined for seven goals and two assists in the last four games. Prior to the win over Holy Cross on Feb. 19, Filteau had four goals and three assists in 28 games. In the last four games Filteau has doubled his goal-scoring total and added another assist to give him 12 points on the year. Barthelmess, who had four goals and five assists in 26 games before Feb. 19, has scored three goals with an assist in the last four games.
