Former Pioneer Matt Gingera Named SPHL Rookie of the Year

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – Former Sacred Heart men's hockey player Matt Gingera was named the Easton Rookie of the Year for the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) on Monday, as voted on by the league's coaches, general managers, and media representatives.

Gingera, who currently plays for the Columbus Cottonmouths, led all SPHL rookies with 50 points and was second in the league with 28 goals and nine game-winning goals. He led Sacred Heart with 33 points in his senior season of 2011-12, finishing his career with 109 points on 61 goals and 48 assists in 142 games played.
