FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart men's hockey head coach C.J. Marottolo announced the upcoming non-conference schedule on Wednesday. The Pioneers will take on the defending national champions Yale and NCAA Frozen Four participant UMass-Lowell, as well as play in a tournament at UConn at the end of December that will have another Frozen Four participant, Quinnipiac, in the field.
"We're very excited about our non-conference schedule for next season," said Marottolo. "We play two teams that were in last season's NCAA Frozen Four, highlighted by playing on the road at national champion Yale. We're thrilled to be part of the UConn Classic during the holidays, which includes Quinnipiac and UMass. This challenging non-conference slate will get us ready to play in a highly competitive Atlantic Hockey Association."
The Pioneers will open the season on Friday, Oct. 11 at UMass-Lowell, the defending Hockey East champions. On Oct. 12, Sacred Heart will play its home opener against Rensselaer. The two sides will then play at Rensselaer one week later. The Pioneers will play at Penn State on Friday, Nov. 8, then take on Yale at Ingalls Rink on Saturday, Nov. 16. Sacred Heart wraps up non-conference play with the UConn Hockey Classic Dec. 29-30. The tournament field included the host Huskies as well as Quinnipiac and UMass.
