FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman forward Jordan Minello (Sweaburg, Ont.) was named the Travel Team USA Rookie of the Week on Tuesday by the Atlantic Hockey Association. He had two two-point games this past weekend against Holy Cross and UConn.
Minello scored his first collegiate goal and had three assists over the weekend. On Friday night at Holy Cross, Minello tallied his first goal and assisted on Evan Jasper's (Whitby, Ont.) goal that tied the game 3-3 with 0:29 left in the second period for a +3 night. He then added assists on both Sacred Heart goals at UConn on Saturday. Minello ended the weekend a +4. He is the third-leading scorer in Atlantic Hockey among freshmen with five points after back-to-back- two-point games. Freshman Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) was named to the Atlantic Hockey Weekly Honor Roll after also posting four points this past weekend.
Minello is the second Pioneer freshman to be named Rookie of the Week. Defenseman Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned the honor on Oct. 15.
Sacred Heart wraps up its current five-game road swing on Friday, Nov. 8 with a 7 p.m. game at Penn State.
