SHU Men's Hockey Returns Home To Host Army Tuesday At Webster Bank Arena

Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart returns home for four of its next six games, beginning Tuesday night against Army at Webster Bank Arena.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell behind 2-0 in the first period at Penn State Friday night, getting within one with a power play goal with 0:29 left in the third period to get within one. However, Sacred Heart could not force overtime and lost to the Nittany Lions 2-1. Will Rayner scored the lone Pioneer goal as Alex Vazzano made 37 saves.
All-Time vs. Army... The Black Knights lead the overall series 22-21-6. Army went 2-0-1 against Sacred Heart last season with both wins coming at Tate Rink in West Point. The series is tied 4-4-2 over the last 10 meetings. The Pioneers are 3-1-2 in their last six home meetings against Army.
Last Meeting vs. Army... Army's Maurice Alvarez scored 0:44 into the third period to put the Black Knights past Sacred Heart 3-2 on Nov. 16, 2012. Chad Filteau and Eric Delong scored the two Pioneer goals on the night as Andrew Bodnarchuk made 35 saves in goal. Army outshot Sacred Heart 38-28 for the game.
Welcome Back... Sacred Heart plays its first home game in almost a month Tuesday night. The Pioneers wrapped up a five-game roadswing Friday night with a 2-1 loss at Penn State. It was the third time this season that Sacred Heart scored just one goal in a game. Over this five-game stretch, the Pioneers were outscored 21-8 while averaging 21.6 shots per game. Sacred Heart has scored on three of its last 22 power plays.
Jasper's On A Roll... Freshman forward Evan Jasper is currently on a three-game point-scoring streak after recording an assist on Sacred Heart's lone goal at Penn State Friday night. After being held without a point in the first five games this season, Jasper recorded his first two career points on a goal and an assist on Nov. 1 at Holy Cross. He has since had an assist in games at UConn and Penn State. Jasper is currently tied for third on the team in points with four.
Rayner on the Power Play... Junior defenseman Will Rayner set a new single-season career-high for goals Friday night with his third of the season at Penn State. Rayner has scored in back-to-back games. Of his seven career goals, four have come on the power play including all three this season. Rayner is Sacred Heart's top scoring defenseman with three goals and an assist, and leads all Atlantic Hockey defensemen in goals.
Scouting the Black Knights... Army enters Tuesday night's game 0-6 after an 11-0 loss at #8 Boston College on Sunday. The Black Knights, picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic Hockey preseason coaches poll, are 0-3 in the league with losses to UConn, Bentley, and Holy Cross. Freshman forward C.J. Reuschlein leads Army with three goals this season. Willie Faust also has three points on two goals and an assist. Junior goaltender Rob Tadazak has a 4.93 goals against average.
