Men's Hockey Opens Home-And-Home Series At Army Friday Night

Game Notes

Sacred Heart Pioneers (2-8-0, 1-3-0 AHA) at Army Black Knights (1-8-0, 1-5-0 AHA)

Nov. 22, 7:05 p.m. - Tate Rink (2,648) - West Point, N.Y.

Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart opens a key home-and-home series with the Army Black Knights Friday night at Tate Rink. 


Last Time Out... The Pioneers were tied with Yale 1-1 after the first period last Saturday night, but the Bulldogs scored three goals in the second period to pull away and win 5-1. Junior Ben Lake scored the lone Sacred Heart goal on the power play.


All-Time vs. Army...
The Black Knights tied the overall series 22-22-6 with a 6-2 win over Sacred heart at Webster Bank Arena on Nov. 12. Army is 3-0-1 against the Pioneers in the last four meetings. Sacred Heart last beat Army on Feb. 25, 2012 at Tate Rink by a score of 5-3.


Last Meeting vs. Army...
Justin Danforth and Brian Sheehan put Sacred Heart ahead 2-0 in the first period against Army on Nov. 12, but Maurice Alvarez scored the first of his three goals to get the Black Knights within one at intermission. Army then scored three times in the second to pull away and win 6-2. Jordan Minello had two assists for the Pioneers as Alex Vazzano made 31 saves.

Power Up... The Pioneers have scored a power play goal in each of the last four games, and in five of the last six games. Sacred Heart is 4-for-22 on the power play over the last four games, with the Pioneers scoring six goals over that span. The Pioneers are seventh in Atlantic Hockey with a 19.5% power play percentage. 


Trouble In The Middle Frame... Sacred Heart has been outscored 15-5 in the second period of games this season. An opponent has scored at least two goals in the second period five different times in the first 10 games. Army and Yale both scored three goals in the second against the Pioneers in the last two games. 

The MDJ Line ... The forward line of freshmen Jordan Minello, Justin Danforth, and Evan Jasper was held without a point for the second time in six games last Saturday at Yale. The trio is Sacred Heart's top-three leading scorers, led by Danforth's eight points. Minello is second with seven as Jasper has five points. Jasper had a four-game point scoring streak snapped at Yale. 


Scouting the Black Knights...
Army enters the weekend 1-5 in Atlantic Hockey after being swept by scores of 5-0 and 8-3 at Niagara. The Black Knights were within two, 5-3, of the Purple Eagles in the second game after two periods before falling 8-3. C.J. Reuschlein scored his team-high fourth goal of the season at Niagara.
