Andrew Bodnarchuk Named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior goaltender Andrew Bodnarchuk (Saskatoon, Sask.) was named the Travel Team USA Goaltender of the Week by the Atlantic Hockey Association on Tuesday after earning two wins in goal this past weekend against Army.

Bodnarchuk earned his first two wins in goal this season as Sacred Heart swept Army in a home-and-home series. The junior goalie entered Friday night's game at Army after Alex Vazzano (Trumbull, Conn.) allowed three goals in the first period, making 20 saves on 22 shots as the Pioneers came back to win 6-5. Bodnarchuk then started Saturday's game, making 31 saves on 32 shots as Sacred Heart beat Army 4-1. In two games this weekend, Bodnarchuk posted a 1.67 goals against average and a .944 save percentage.

This is Sacred Heart's fouth Atlantic Hockey weekly honor of the season. Vazzano earned Goaltender of the Week honors on Oct. 14 after making 35 saves in the Pioneers' win over UMass-Lowell in the season opener. Freshman Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 21 after recording a goal and an assist in Sacred Heart's 3-1 win over Bentley on Oct. 16. Jordan Minello (Sweaburg, Ont.) also earned Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 5 after a four-point weekend in games against Holy Cross and Connecticut.

The Pioneers return to Milford Ice Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 29 to open a two-game series with RIT. The two teams will drop the puck at 4:05 p.m.
