Pioneers Host Bentley Friday Night To Open Home-And-Home Series

Game Notes

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers look to extend their unbeaten streak aginst Bentley this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Falcons. 

Last Time Out... Sacred Heart scored a season-high six goals last Saturday night against AIC, but lost to the Yellow Jackets 7-6 at Milford Ice Pavilion. Five different Pioneers had at least two points in the game, led by Ben Lake's three points. Senior Neil Fachini had his first multiple-point game of his career with a goal and an assist.

All-Time vs. Bentley... The Pioneers lead the all-time series with with the Falcons 24-22-5. Sacred Heart is unbeaten against Bentley in each of the last three meetings, taking five of a possible six points. Bentley is 5-3-2 against Sacred Heart in the last 10 meetings.

Last Meeting... Sacred Heart scored twice on the power play to beat Bentley 3-1 on Oct. 16 at Milford Ice Pavilion in the conference opener for both teams. Mitch Nylen and Justin Danforth each had two points in the win. Nylen earned Atlantic Hockey Rookie ofthe Week honors after scoring a power play goal and adding an assist. Danforth had two assists for his first career multiple-point game. Alex Vazzano made 37 saves, including 14 in the third period, for his second win of the season.

Spread The Wealth... The Pioneers had five different players record two points Saturday night against AIC. Ben Lake had a career-high three points with a shorthanded goal and two assists. Drew George, Jake Lynes, Neil Fachini, and Spencer Graboski each had a goal and an assist. Graboski's goal was his first of his career. 

Carroll's Helping Out... Jeff Carroll is currently on a six-game point-scoring streak, the longest for any Pioneers this season. He has had an assist in each of the last six games, giving him 12 helpers for the season. Carroll had a goal and two assists last weekend against AIC. 

Balanced Scoring... Seven different Pioneers have scored at least five goals this season. Drew George and Jordan Minello scored in both games of the AIC, giving each of them eight goals on the year. Ben Lake scored his seventh goal of the season last Saturday shorthanded, as Jeff Carroll and Will Rayner each have six goals. Justin Danforth and Evan Jasper each have five goals. Seventeen different players have scored a goal for Sacred Heart this season.

First Time For Everything... Senior Neil Fachini had his first career multiple-point game of his career last Saturday night against AIC. His goal and assist against the Yellow Jackets were his first two points of the season. Fachini's last goal came on Jan. 7, 2011 against Air Force. 

Scouting the Falcons... Bentley enters the weekend in second place in Atlantic Hockey, two points behind Mercyhurst. The Falcons are 7-2-2 in their last 11 games, including a weekend sweep of Army last weekend. Senior forward Brett Gensler is tied for the Atlantic Hockey lead in points with 40 (17G, 23A). Defenseman Steve Weinstein leads the conference with 33 assists. He is tied for the national lead in assists per game.
