Justin Danforth Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman forward Justin Danforth (Oshawa, Ont.) was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Year on Thursday. Danforth led the Sacred Heart men's hockey team with 24 assists and 29 points in the 2013-14 season.

Danforth is the third Pioneer to be named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year, joining Pierre-Luc O'Brien in 2004 and Bear Trapp in 2006. He had eight multiple-point games this season, including a pair of three-point games at Holy Cross on Nov. 1 and at AIC on Feb. 14. Danforth had a six-game point-scoring streak from Feb. 7-22 in which he tallied two goals and six assists. All but one of Danforth's 29 points were recorded in conference games, tying him for the rookie scoring lead in Atlantic Hockey games with AIC's David Norris.

Danforth was also named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team this season, along with defenseman Mitch Nylen (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
