19 Pioneers Named To Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team; Tsekos Earns Student Athlete of the Year Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's hockey program had 19 student-athletes named to the 2017-18 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team on Monday. Zach Tsekos was one of nine student-athletes from the 11 conference teams to carry a perfect 4.0 GPA for the school year, earning Student-Athlete of the Year honors for the first time. 

Recent graduate Kory Kennedy earned All-Academic team honors for the fourth time. Recent graduate Nathan Perry along with juniors Jackson Barliant, Liam Clare, Zach De Concilys all became three-time Academic Team honorees.


Sophomores Vito Bacaro, Hunter Fargey, Christian Lloyd, Max Luukko and Tsekos picked up honors for the second straight season. Jason Cotton and Michael Lee earned their first honors along with Michael Gilroy, Marc Johnstone, Mel Melconian and Matt Tugnutt.

In all, a record 228 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team honors this season. To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters for which his team was actively competing.
