Freshman goaltender Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC) was named the Atlantic Hockey rookie of the week for games through January 10 today by the league office. Legatto made 63 total saves and earned his first career shutout as the Pioneers recorded a win and a tie against Army last weekend. Legatto has now earned three straight rookie of the week honors dating back to before the semester break.
Legatto starting the weekend with 33 saves Friday night in a 3-3 tie. The rookie netminder made two crucial saves in overtime to preserve the draw for Sacred Heart. Legatto faced an early onslaught from the Black Knights Staurday night but withstood the pressure tallying 15 saves in the first period.
Overall Legatto posted a .955 save percentage against Army while compiling a 1.18 goals against average and .964 save percentage in his last five games. The Pioneers will look to ride their goaltender's hot streak into next weekend's series with Mercyhurst.
