Junior Patrick Knowlton (Colorado Springs, CO) scored two goals and provided three assists last weekend en route to being named the AHA player of the week. Knowlton's offense was key in a weekend sweep over previously first place Mercyhurst. The two wins make Sacred Heart the hottest team in nation, remaining unbeaten in its last seven games. This is the fourth straight week a SHU player has earned a conference award.
Knowlton posted a goal and two assists in the series opener with the Lakers, a 6-3 win Friday night. He netted SHU's first goal of that game, a power play marker, that evened the score before the first intermission. The junior forward assisted on the Pioneers last two goals Friday night to seal the victory.
Knowlton gave Sacred Heart a 2-1 lead in the series finale with a power play goal midway through the second period. He helped put the game away with an assist on Nick Johnson's (Windsor, CT) third period goal which would prove to be the game winner. The Pioneers close out an eight game homestand next weekend as they welcome the Canisius Golden Griffins to the Milford Ice Pavilion.
