FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Saturday afternoon's men's lacrosse game vs. Mount St. Mary's will also serve as the Pioneers' Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team will be wearing pink t-shirts during warm-ups and under thier uniforms throughout the game.
Pink SHU t-shirts will also be available for purchase at the Pioneer merchandise table located in the Pitt Center main lobby for $10. The team will also be accepting donations towards the American Cancer Society.

Mount St. Mary's will be participating as well. The Mountaineers will be wearing apparel recognizing the HEADstrong Foundation to benefit cancer research in honor of former Hofstra lacrosse player Nicholas Collelouri.
About the Pioneers... Sacred Heart snapped a three-game losing streak with an 18-4 win in its first-ever NEC contest last Saturday to improve to 4-5. Sophomore attack Bryan Badolato leads the Pioneers in scoring with 28 points on 18 goals and a team-high 10 assists. Tied for the team-lead in goals with Badolato is freshman attack Mike Mawdsley who has five helpers to go with his 18 scores. Sophomore midfielder Stephen Kontos has collected a team-high 48 groundballs and won 104 face-offs in 186 draws. Freshman midfielder Tim Caton ranks second on the team in grounders with 29, while also causing eight turnovers. Sophomore defensemen Pat Fletcher and Nick Soubry have each forced a team-leading 11 caused turnovers. Senior goalie Zach Frank has started all nine games in the cage and holds a .585 save percentage on 117 saves and sports a 9.65 goals against average.
Scouting the Mountaineers... Mount St. Mary's enters the weekend at 4-5, following a 13-7 loss to Georgetown, Tuesday night. The Mount opened conference play with a 12-11 win over Robert Morris. Junior attack Brett Schmidt, last week's NEC Player of the Week, leads his team in points with 27, including 17 goals and a team-high 10 assists. Sophomore attack Andrew Scalley is the Mount's top goal scorer at 20 to go with six helpers, putting him just one point shy of a share for the team lead. Junior attack Cody Lehrer is only one goal off the team lead at 19. Senior face-off specialist Ben Trapp has grabbed a team-best 57 groundballs and won 121 draws at a .558 clip. Between the pipes, senior goalie T.C. DiBartolo holds a .498 save percentage and 12.11 GAA, while starting all nine games for the Mountaineers.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers opened the conference portion of the 2011 slate with an 18-4 home victory over Wagner, Saturday night. The win was the program's first-ever game as a member of the NEC and also marked the 100th career win for head coach Tom Mariano. Sophomore attack Eric Madigan, who sat out 2010, led the Sacred Heart offense with three goals and two assists in the team's highest offensive outburst of the season. SHU led 2-0 after the first quarter and began the second with a man-up score from junior midfielder Matt Ferrino. Freshman Alex Miller and sophomore Trevor Dauses lifted the Pioneers lead to 5-0 to secure the win early on. In the third, the Sacred Heart offense erupted with four goals in the first six minutes to grab a 9-2 lead. Madigan tallied all three of his goals in the third quarter. Badolato netted two scores in the fourth to pull even with Mawdsley for the team-lead in goals scored.
Last Time They Met... Sacred Heart stages a late comeback attempt at Mount St. Mary's, but ultimately came up short, 9-8. The Pioneers trailed by four with 2:17 remaining. Timmy Katz would net two goals and Evan Morgan added one before the final horn sounded, but SHU was still one goal shy of forcing an extra frame. The Pioneers outshot the Mountaineers 32-29 for the game. Tom Trgo stopped 10 shots, while T.C. DiBartolo stopped 13 for the Mount. Jake Willertz scored twice and added an assist for MSM.
All-Time vs. The Mount... The Pioneers are winless in all four of their previous tries against the Mountaineers. Last season marked the first time since 2001 that SHU and MSM had met. The Mount won the first match-up in 2000, 9-8, and posted two wins over Sacred Heart in 2001. The Pioneers fell to the Mountaineers, 15-10, in the 2001 regular season and later lost, 11-9, in the MAAC Tournament at Marist.
C-Note... Sacred Heart head coach Tom Mariano registered his 100th career victory with an 18-4 win over Wagner at Campus Field on Saturday April 2, 2011. Mariano has now won 86 games at the helm of the Pioneers, while collecting 14 wins in two seasons at Marist.
On This Date... Sacred Heart is 1-2 all-time when playing on April 5. The Pioneers have fallen in both attempts in the Division I era with losses in 2005 and 2008 to former CAA foes Drexel and Towson. In 1994, SHU defeated Merrimack, 13-2.
Top 40... Senior goalie Zach Frank ranks for 10th in save percentage at .585. In scoring, sophomore Bryan Badolato is 29th at 3.09 points per game and tied for 38th in goals per game at 2.00 with freshman Mike Mawdsley. Badolato is also 33rd in the nation with a .400 shot percentage. Sophomore face-off specialist Stephen Kontos was 20th in the country in both groundballs per game and face-off win percentage of. He was collected 5.33 grounders and won .559 of his draws.
Up Next... The Pioneers wrap up a three-game home stand when Bryant comes to Campus Field for a 7:00 pm start time on April 16. The game will also serve as the team's Senior Day, as well as Alumni Day.
