Setting The Scene … Sacred Heart travels to Bryant on Saturday for a game with plenty of Northeast Conference Tournament implications. With a win and a Quinnipiac loss Saturday, the Pioneers would win the NEC regular-season title and host the upcoming NEC Tournament.

Series History vs. Bryant … Sacred Heart is 0-4 all-time against Bryant, with the last two meetings decided by three goals or less. Bryant won last year's game 11-8 at the Bryant Turf Complex. The Pioneers were within one, 7-6, after the third quarter. The Bulldogs outshot Sacred Heart 47-36, while the Pioneers won 14 of 22 faceoffs.

Last Time Out … The Pioneers clinched a berth in the NEC Tournament last Saturday with a 14-13 win over Robert Morris at Campus Field. The win also snapped a four-game losing streak to the Colonials. Cody Marquis led all scorers with four goals. Matt King, Shane Foley, and Mike Mawdsley each scored two goals. Matt Gannon had a game-high three assists. Robert Morris led 12-11 with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter before Sacred Heart scored three straight goals to take a 14-12 lead.

Pioneers In The Postseason… Sacred Heart clinched a berth in the NEC Tournament Saturday, defeating Robert Morris 14-13. This is the Pioneers' first postseason appearance since playing in the 2001 MAAC Tournament. With a win on Saturday and a Robert Morris win over Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart would win the NEC regular-season title and host the NEC Tournament.

Success At The X… Stephen Kontos won 21 of 30 faceoffs Saturday against Robert Morris, his third straight game with at least 20 faceoff wins. He also scored his first goal of the season. Over the last three games, Kontos has won 78% of his faceoffs (64-for-82). Kontos is fourth in the nation with a 63.4% faceoff percentage. His counterpart at Bryant, Kevin Massa, leads the nation in faceoff percentage at 70.2%.

Gannon Among Nation's Leaders In Assists…  Junior attackman Matt Gannon continues to lead the NEC in assists, averaging 2.67 per game this season. He is also fifth in the nation in assists per game. Gannon has 32 assists this season, the most for a Pioneer in a single season since the program moved to Division I. Gannon has 18 assists and 22 points in NEC play this season, and has recorded two or more points in 10 games.

Back on the Marquis… Junior attack Cody Marquis scored a game-high four goals last week in the win over Robert Morris. In four NEC games, Marquis has 18 points on 13 goals and five assists. Marquis is one of three Pioneers with 24 goals on the season, and has had at least a goal and an assist in each of the last four games.
