FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart men's lacrosse head coach Jon Basti released the 2014 schedule on Monday. The Pioneers will play seven home games at Campus Field this upcoming spring, beginning on Sunday, Feb. 16 against Binghamton.
"We're excited to get the season going," said Basti, who is entering his first season at the helm of the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse program. "We have a very exciting schedule with a lot of good competition. Our conference is getting more competitive which makes those games even more crucial."
Sacred Heart will play three of its first four games at home to open 2014. After Binghamton, the Pioneers will host High Point on Feb. 22 in the first meeting between the two programs. On March 1, Sacred Heart will travel to Dallas, Texas to take on Dartmouth in the Patriot Cup at SMU's Ford Stadium. The Patriot Cup is a two-day lacrosse event in Dallas that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. After facing the Big Green, Sacred Heart returns home on March 8 to host Providence.
The Pioneers open a three-game stretch against America East opponents on Tuesday, March 11 with a 7 p.m. game at Stony Brook. The following Saturday, Hartford comes to Campus Field for a 1 p.m. showdown. On March 22, Sacred Heart will travel to Vermont. The Pioneers open Northeast Conference play on Saturday, March 29 at Robert Morris. Sacred Heart beat the Colonials 14-13 last season, a win that insured the Pioneers' first berth in the NEC Tournament. On Wednesday, April 2 Sacred Heart hosts defending NEC champions Bryant for a 7 p.m. game at Campus Field. Bryant defeated Sacred Heart in the NEC tournament last season on its way to the NEC title.
After hosting Bryant, Sacred Heart goes on the road for three straight games. The trip begins on April 5 at new NEC men's lacrosse member Hobart, followed by a 7 p.m. game on April 9 at Holy Cross. The Pioneers wrap up that stretch of road games on Saturday, April 19th with a 1 p.m. game the other new NEC men's lacrosse program, St. Joseph's. Sacred Heart closes the season with two home games on April 23 against Wagner and April 26 against Mount St. Mary's. The Pioneers beat both the Seahawks and Mountaineers last season on its way to the NEC tournament.
