PHILADELPHIA – The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team had five men's lacrosse student-athletes named All-Northeast Conference on Wednesday, as announced by the league. The Pioneers had three student-athletes – Andrew Newbold (Loveland, Ohio), Alex Miller (Ridgewood, N.J..), and Cody Marquis (Londonderry, N.H.) – named First Team All-NEC, a team high since NEC Lacrosse began in 2010.
Newbold earned his second consecutive First Team All-NEC honor and third All-NEC accolade. The senior defenseman leads Sacred Heart with 25 caused turnovers and has 40 groundballs. Newbold also scored a career-high four goals and had an assist this season as well. Miller was tabbed to the First Team after a spectacular senior season. After entering the year with 36 career points, Miller exploded for 25 goals and 44 points in 2014. He leads the Pioneers in both goals and points this season. Marquis is second on the team in points with 41, scoring 23 goals with 18 assists. His 41 points are a single-season career-high.
Sophomore midfielder Alex Dodge (Smithtown, N.Y.) was named Second Team All-NEC on Wednesday. After earning All-Rookie honors a year ago, Dodge more than tripled his point production this season with 17 goals and nine assists. Freshman Brian Masi (Smithtown, N.Y.) was named to the NEC All-Rookie Team after posting 18 goals and eight assists this season.
Sacred Heart will face second-seeded #20 Bryant in the Northeast Conference Tournament, hosted by Saint Joseph's, on Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. This is the second season in a row that the Pioneers and Bulldogs will meet in the NEC Tournament semifinals.
