Mark Miyashita is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse program.
Miyashita previously was the head coach at Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colo., where he founded the lacrosse program when the school first opened in 2006. He was twice named Douglas County Lacrosse League Coach of the Year as his team won the league in 2012. In 2009, he started working with Tierney Lacrosse as a coach for the Denver Elite Lacrosse Club. Miyashita played his collegiate lacrosse at Canisius from 2000-2003, earning three All-MAAC selections including two First-Team honors. He led the nation in ground balls his freshman year, eventually becoming the Golden Griffins’ career leader in ground balls. After college, Miyashita played three seasons in the Western Lacrosse Association and five seasons in the National Lacrosse League.
“Mark is someone who was highly recommended by people that I greatly respect in our game. He has coached for 10 years in Colorado as a high school head coach which gives him a unique perspective on what we are trying to build,” said head coach Jon Basti. “His experiences in the box and field games, both as a player and a coach, will be very important for our player development. His leadership qualities will add a great deal to our staff and to our culture at SHU.”
