SHU was held scoreless for the first 41:03 of the game before tacking on a late third quarter goal and four fourth quarter markers in the loss.

Colgate's Brandon Corp tallied a game-high three goals and three other players added two scores as the Raiders improved to 2-0 while SHU fell to 0-1 on the season.

The Raiders (2-0, 0-0) set the defensive tone in the first quarter, not allowing a single Sacred Heart (0-1, 0-0) shot in the quarter. On offense, the Raiders wasted little time and rang up three goals in a span of 2:31 and added two more by the end of the quarter for a 5-0 lead.

SHU fell behind even further in the second, tacking on four more scores for a 9-0 lead at the half. The Raider offense continued to flourish as it piled on six unanswered goals for a 9-0 lead at halftime. Colgate got goals from six different players during that stretch.

Coming out of the break, Colgate added four more goals from four different players to stretch its lead to 14-0 with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter. The Pioneers struggled clearing the ball in the second and third quarters, clearing just five of 13 attempts.

The Pioneers finally broke through the Raider defense with 2:57 left in the quarter when sophomore Bobby Karl (Clifton Park, NY) beat the Colgate goalie off a feed from senior Peter Greco (Hamburg, NY). Corp answered for Colgate 2:19 into the fourth quarter to make it a 15-1 game and close out the Raider scoring.

Sacred Heart got a scoring flurry down the stretch, notching four unanswered to close out the contest. Sophomore Bobby Rushton (West Islip, NY) started the run at the 6:10 mark with an unassisted goal and the Pioneers added scores from freshman Evan Morgan (Ashburn, VA), senior Michael Collins (Auburn, NY) and senior Joe Cavagnaro (Kinnelon, NJ) in the final three minutes of play. Senior Brendan McCauley (Hicksville, NY) set up the Collins goal.

Sacred Heart's Ricardo Vargas had 14 saves in the loss as the Pioneers played all three of their goaltenders.
