Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT (February 25, 2006) - Colgate's Brian Robinson scored five goals, two in the fourth quarter to put the Raiders up for good en route to a 12-10 win over Sacred Heart in the Pioneer's 2006 season opener. SHU trailed 7-4 at the half but scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter to carry an 8-7 lead into the final frame. The Raiders answered with five in the fourth and improved to 2-0 on the year while SHU opens at 0-1.

The Pioneers struck first as senior Matthew Robideau (Massena, NY) buried a feed from sophomore Billy Fuchs (Merrick, NY) 45 seconds in. From there, the Raider rattled off four straight scores from four different players in the opening quarter to take a 4-1 lead with 57 left. SHU finally snapped the streak in the waning seconds of the quarter. SHU retained possession after a missed shot and senior Adam Dzedzy (Glenmoore, PA) redirected a pass from fellow senior Kiel Adams (Rome, NY) right in front with just 0.7 seconds on the clock to cut it to 4-2.

SHU pulled to within 4-3 as senior Kevin Walker (Rochester, NY) scored unassisted at 11:37 in the second but another Colgate run gave the Raiders back their three goal cushion. Matt Lalli tallied his fifth of the year followed by Robinson's first two of the afternoon. Walker ended the run with his second unassisted score of the day at 4:20 and both teams would go into the break from there with the Raiders up 7-4.

Sacred Heart dominated the third thanks to Adams and junior Peter Greco (Hamburg, NY). SHU tallied their first of the quarter at 11:39 as Adams fed Greco for his first of the year. The junior attackman then returned the favor four minutes later, giving Adams his first score of the year. The duo added a pair of unassisted goals with less then a minute to go in the quarter to give SHU an 8-7 lead heading in the final quarter.

Colgate pulled even just 54 seconds in as Broinson buried a pass from Brendan Hurley. The Raiders went back ahead scoring man-up on Robert Trasolini's first goal of the season from Hurley. SHU tied it up as Greco scored his third, man-up, on an assist from Robideau with 8:47 on the clock. Colgate would have an answer once again as Robinson buried his fifth of the day, once again from Hurley.

After another Colgate goal, Sacred Heart pulled to within one on an unassisted goal from Robideau with 6:35 left, but SHU failed on a clear attempt and couldn't convert a man-up opportunity, sending three shots wide, with four minutes left. Colgate goalie Andrew Jarolimek had two of his 11 saves in the final four minutes to help protect the win. Colgate's Nick Monastero added an insurance goal with three seconds left to seal the win.

SHU got four points apiece from Greco (3g, 1a) and Adams (2g, 2a) while Robideau added a pair of scores and an assist. Senior Thomas Hind (Farmingdale, NY) made 15 saves in the cage for SHU.

Colgate got five points from Hurley who added a goal to his four assists. Both Lalli and Trasolini had a goal and an assist each.

The Pioneers return to the field next Saturday, March 4th hosting Manhattan at 12 noon.
