Fairfield, CT - Kevin Stockel and Joe Wojciechowski each scored a pair of goals to lead Drexel to a 10-4 victory over Sacred Heart in CAA men's lacrosse action Saturday night on Senior Night at Campus Field. The loss eliminated the Pioneers from playoff contention.
The Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter and never looked back. Scott Perri, Chris Farquhar and Adam Dennis all scored goals in the first quarter and Wojciechowski found the back of the net early in the second to complete the run. Senior Bobby Karl (Clifton Park, NY) put the Pioneers on the board at the six minute mark of the second quarter. However, Stockel answered back with five minutes remaining to make it 5-1 Drexel at the intermission.
Senior Dan Casciano (Syracuse, NY) got Sacred Heart to within 5-2 early in the third quarter. However, the Dragons ran off three more goals late in the period to blow the game open. Greg Casey made it 6-2 and Stockel and Wojciechowski each followed with their second goals of the night.
Sophomore Evan Morgan (Ashburn, VA) netted a pair of goals across the quarter line for the Pioneers. Morgan scored with 44 seconds left in the third and then found the back of the net again 50 seconds into the final period to make it 8-4. That would be all the Pioneer offense would muster as Colin Ambler and Kyle Bergman each found the back of the net for Drexel in the final minutes to cement the victory.
Drexel dominated the play for much of the game, out-shooting Sacred Heart 42-27 in the contest. Mark Manos made 12 saves in the victory while sophomore Zack Frank (Islip Terrace, NY) stopped 14 shots in the losing effort for Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers close out the season with a trip to Robert Morris next Saturday. Face-off is set for 12:00 pm.
