Six Goal First Quarter Leads #14 Drexel Past Sacred Heart, 15-4

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 19, 2008) - Senior Andrew Chapman scored five goals as the #14 Drexel Dragons scored nine-straight goals to open the game posting a 15-4 win over visiting Sacred Heart Saturday afternoon. The Dragons clinched a share of Colonial Athletic Association regular season title with the win while the Pioneers were eliminated the playoffs with their fourth-straight conference loss.
The Dragons (11-3, 4-1 CAA) out shot Sacred Heart (6-5, 1-4 CAA) overall and 35-12 in the first half, holding the Pioneers to just four goals. Drexel took a 6-0 lead after one and led 8-0 at the half. Chapman notched his fifth of the day to open the third quarter, scoring three and a half minutes in for a 9-0 advantage.
SHU snapped the streak at 10:45 of the third as sophomore Evan Morgan (Ashburn, VA) scored off a feed from senior Tony Tanzi (Mahopac, NY). The Pioneers also got goals from junior Bobby Rushton (West Islip, NY) and sophomores Stephen Gerhard (Centennial, CO) and Jon Flood (Hauppauge, NY). Senior goalkeeper Ricardo Vargas (Falls Church, VA) made a career high 20 saves in taking the loss.
The Pioneers will close out the regular season next Saturday, April 26th when they host Delaware on "Senior Day".
