Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team was ranked fifth in the Turfer/New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Preseason Coaches Poll. Senior Zach Smith (Chittenden, VA) earned a spot on the All-New England Preseason team as a face-off specialist.
The Pioneers will travel north to open their season at UMass this Saturday at 1:00 pm. Senior The primary face-off man for the Pioneers the last two seasons, Smith has won 57 percent of his draws for his career.
The poll was released on Tuesday and featured the Brown University taking the top spot in a vote taken by the region's 12 teams. Harvard University was picked second followed by Dartmouth College in third, the University of Massachusetts in fourth, Sacred Heart University in fifth, Yale University in sixth, Fairfield University in seventh and Quinnipiac University eighth. The poll was conducted by a a vote of the region's 12 Division I coaches.
