FAIRFIELD, CT (March 10, 2005) - Sacred Heart freshman Kieran Carney (Yorktown Heights, NY) was named Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for his play in SHU's win over Fairfield on Sunday night.
Carney tallied seven points in just his second career game to lead Sacred Heart to a 13-9 win over Fairfield. The freshman scored three goals and assisted on four others as the Pioneers rallied from a 4-1 deficit to post their first victory of the season.
The Pioneers (1-1 overall) fell behind 4-1 early, but rallied to take a 7-6 lead at the half and then took control by outscoring the Stags 4-0 in the third quarter. Carney had a goal and two assists in SHU's big third period. Junior goalie Thomas Hind made 12 saves, including eight in the second half. Sophomore Derek Platt finished with three goals and two assists and sophomore Peter Greco scored four times. Senior Blake Reardon won 14-of-26 face-offs and picked up a team-high 12 ground balls.
