FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 10, 2008) - Sacred Heart University sophomore attackman Timmy Katz (Freeport, NY / Freeport H.S.) was named this week's Turfer Athletic New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Player of the Week after scoring eight goals in a pair of Pioneer wins last week. Katz scored a career-high six goals in SHU's 11-10 comeback win over Hartford on Saturday. The Pioneers are ranked 6th this week's Turfer Athletic New England Coaches Poll and also received votes in this weel's USILA Coaches Top-20 poll.
Sacred Heart sophomore Timmy Katz had a monster week scoring eight goals in two games, three man-up, to lead the Pioneers to wins over Manhattan College, 14-6, and the University of Hartford, 11-10. Katz opened the week with a two-goal effort against the Jaspers, scoring a man-up goal in the first quarter and notching his second to ignite a 5-0 run in the third quarter that broke the game open. Katz was key in the Pioneers big come from behind win over the Hawks on Saturday. Katz's career-high six goal afternoon helped the Pioneers erase a Hartford six-goal lead in the third quarter and comeback for the 11-10 victory. With the Pioneers down 9-3 two and half minutes into the third quarter, the sophomore attacker began to work his magic, scoring back to back man-up goals at 8:32 and 8:09 in the third to pull SHU within 9-6. Katz then closed the quarter with markers at 54 seconds and 28 seconds making the comeback complete tying it at 9-9. He finished the day with his sixth at 3:40 of the fourth to give the Pioneers a two-goal cushion, 11-9, into the final minutes as they held on for the win. On the day Katz scored six times on just eight shots and finished the two-game week with eight goals on 11 shots.
