Pioneers Open CAA Play Against Hofstra

Sacred Heart and Hofstra Meet in CAA Opener... Sacred Heart and Hofstra meet in the CAA Opener for both teams Saturday at Campus Field. The Pioneers have won two straight games entering the weekend, having beaten Hartford and Wagner the last two weeks.

The Series... Hofstra leads the all-time series, 7-0. The Pioneers traveled to Hofstra last season and extended their winning streak over the Pioneers with a 20-3 win. The Pioneers and Pride met for the first time during the 2002 season, SHU's first in the CAA. The Pioneers are 0-3 at home in the series.

Last Meeting... The #20 ranked Hofstra Pride scored 14-straight goals starting in the second quarter through the end of the game while converting eight-of-10 man-up opportunities and keeping Sacred Heart off the scored board in the second half en route to a 20-3 run away win in Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon. Jay Card and Tom Dooley led the attack with five goals apiece.

SHU Rolls Past Wagner... The Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team got goals from 12 different Pioneers on their way to an 18-3 win over visiting Wagner College Saturday afternoon on Campus Field. The Pioneers out shot the Seahawks 39-28 on the way to their secondstraight win.

Scouting the Pride... Hofstra is ranked sixth in the this week's USILA Rankings. The Pride boast the CAA Player of the Week in Ryan Carter as well as the CAA Goaltender of the Week in Andrew Gvozden. The Pride is 3-1 on the year after beating Princeton last week. The Pride have a balanced offense with four different players having scored four goals in the season's first four games.Gvozden and Danny Orlando have split time in the cage.

Leading the Offense... After being one of the top attackers last season, Junior Timmy Katz has picked up right where he left off. Katz leads the Pioneer attack with 10 goals and three assists on the year. He earned CAA Player of the Week honors on March 10 after scoring the overtime game-winner against Hartford.

Up Next... Sacred Heart closes out a three game homestand against CAA rival Villanova next Saturday. The game will take place under the lights, with a 7:00 pm face-off at Campus Field.
