Men's Soccer Earns 0-0 Tie at #10 Monmouth
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (October 10, 2010) – For the second straight season the Sacred Heart University men's soccer team played #10 Monmouth to a scoreless tie. Junior goalkeeper Alex Fait (Ottawa, Ont.) made six saves to record his third straight shutout. The Pioneers are now 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Northeast Conference, while the Hawks are 8-1-1 and 2-0-1.
Last season Monmouth visited Campus Field ranked 10th in the country and were shutout in a 0-0 tie with Sacred Heart. Ranked 10th again, the Hawks, along with the Pioneers, were still unable to put one in the back of the net.
Monmouth outshot Sacred Heart 18-10. Senior goalkeeper Bryan Meredith was credited with two saves in the shutout effort. Sophomore forward Justin Brewer (Somers, Conn.) led the Pioneer attack with three shots including one midway through the second half that was on net, but saved by senior defender Bryan Davis.
The Hawks were also bailed out by a defensive save earlier in the first half. At the 36:45 mark, graduate student Patrick Daka (Chingola, Zambia) headed a ball toward the MU net that was knocked away by junior Christian Noguiera to keep the game knotted at zero.
The Pioneers return to action at home next Friday when they host Saint Francis (PA) at 7:00 pm on Campus Field.
