HAMDEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team dropped a Northeast Conference match-up at intrastate rival Quinnipiac, 2-1, Friday afternoon. The loss moved the Pioneers to 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the NEC, while the Bobcats improved to 3-8-1 and 2-3 in league play.
Sophomore William Cavallo put QU on the board with a score in the 19th minute. Classmate Philip Surprise added to the Bobcats lead with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Dominic Adams assisted on both goals with crosses coming from the left side.
In net, sophomore Josh Lavallee provided five stops to earn the shutout for Quinnipiac. Sacred Heart junior goalkeeper Alex Fait (Ottawa, Ont.) also made five saves between the pipes.
For the game, the Bobcats outshot the Pioneers 17-14.
Entering this afternoon's contest, Sacred Heart sat atop the NEC standings by two points over #13 Monmouth. The Pioneers get back on the field Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm as they visit Central Connecticut State.
