FAIRFIELD, CT (November 7, 2011) - The Sacred Heart men's soccer team is the #1 seed and will host this weekend's Northeast Conference Tournament with all the games being played at Fairfield University. Fairfield's Lessing Field will serve as the site for the tournament with the semifinals scheduled for Friday, November 11th with the NEC Championship game slated for Sunday, November 13th.
The playoff field was set after Sunday's round of conference games closed out the regular season. The Pioneers (6-1-3) are the #1 seed and share the NEC Regular Season Championship with Central Connecticut (7-3) and Monmouth (7-3), all finishing with 21 points in the standings. The Blue Devils will be the #2 seed and the Hawks the #3 seed. The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (6-2-2) are the #4 seed, finishing with 20 points on the year.
Sacred Heart and FDU will face-off in game one on Friday with kick-off scheduled for 11:00 am. The second semifinal is scheduled for approximatly 1:30 pm with CCSU and Monmouth battling for a spot in the title game. Sunday's Championship tilt is scheduled for 1:00 pm. All three games will be streamed live by NortheastConference.TV. Tickets will be available the day of the event at the site of competition. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for senior citizens and children between the ages of 11-18. Children under the age of 11 and NEC students with an institutional I.D. will be admitted free.
Directions to Fairfield University
From I-95 North: Take Exit 22 (Round Hill Road) which is also an exit for a rest area. Stay right on the exit and proceed to stop sign. Go straight through the stop sign to the end of road. Make left onto North Benson Road. Continue on North Benson Road to Fairfield University Main Entrance and turn left. Once on campus, make a right at the second stop sign and proceed to the Walsh Athletic Center where parking and access to fields is available.
From I-95 South: Take Exit 22 (North Benson Road). Turn right onto North Benson Road. Follow to Fairfield University main entrance and turn left. Once on campus, make a right at the second stop sign and proceed to the Walsh Athletic Center where parking and access to fields is available.
From Merritt Parkway: Take Exit 44. Follow Rt. 58 South (Black Rock Turnpike). Proceed two miles to Stillson Road (Rt. 135), where you will see he Angus Steak House on the corner. Turn right onto Stillson and bear left onto North Benson Road at second traffic light. The University's main entrance is one mile on the right. Once on campus, make a right at the second stop sign and proceed to the Walsh Athletic Center where parking and access to fields is available.
Parking for fans is available on a first come, first served basis in the Walsh Athletic Center parking lot. Visitors are advised that they park at their own risk. Due to the volume of spectators at select events, fans will be directed by Public Safety personnel to designated parking areas.
