(Jersey City, New Jersey) – Omer Levy (Yahud, Israel) and Marcello Castro (Panana, Brazil) both scored first half goals, as the Sacred Heart Men's Soccer team beat Saint Peter's 2-1 on the road in the opening game of the 2012 season.
Betim Bajrami gave the Peacocks an early lead, with Jack Pounce setting him up in the 11th minute inside the box. However, Levy tied it on a free kick in the 29th minute. Castro gave SHU the lead for good on a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
While Saint Peter's attempted 11 shots, only two landed on goal. Tucker Hackett (Madison, CT) made one save to earn his first collegiate win. The Pioneers enjoyed more accuracy with their shots, nailing six of their seven shots attempted on goal. Levy led the way with three shots, with only his game-tying free kick landing on the mark.
Sacred Heart is next in action in the home opener Sunday at 5:00 pm when the Pioneers welcome Columbia to Campus Field.
