(New Haven, CT) – The Sacred Heart Men's Soccer team lost 2-0 on the road against the Yale Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.
Jenner Fox scored the only goal Yale would need in the 24th minute, taking a cross from Peter Jacobson and roofing a shot from just outside the box. Jacobson added an insurance goal in the 58th minute, drilling a shot off a defender after good set-up passes by Philip Piper and Scott Armbust.
Sacred Heart outshot Yale 15-11, including 5-2 in shots on goal. Bobby Thalman made four saves for the shutout, but it was a team defensive save that denied the Pioneers of their best chance to score. Justin Brewer (Somers, CT) stole a pass from Nick Alers early in the game, breaking in and deeking Thalman down. However, Brewer's shot was defended away by Alers, who raced back and cleared it just before the goal line. SHU also came close on an inadvertent header off the post by a Yale defender, and follow-up diving save by Thalman on a shot by Joshua Mathews in the final seconds of the first half.
Sacred Heart is next in action Wednesday afternoon on September 29 when they host Stony Brook at 3:30 pm.
