(Fairfield, CT) – Omer Levy scored in the 69th minute to lift the Sacred Heart Men's Soccer team to a 1-0 win over the Robert Morris Colonials in the Pioneers' first NEC game of the season on a rainy Friday afternoon at Campus Field.
Levy took a cross from Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, MA), then chipped in the game's only goal from about 15 yards out on the left side. Levy generated almost all of SHU's offensive chances, taking six shots in the game and landing four on goal. Levy gave SHU the first opportunity of the game in the ninth minute, as Alex Danais (South Windsor, CT) sent a cross low into the box for him to connect with a header from in tight. Toba Bolaji made a sharp hand save on him there, and then again with a sliding save in the 36th minute when Levy snuck in from the left for a good look from in close.
The Pioneers outshot the Colonials 18-12, setting the tone in the first half with an 11-4 shot advantage. Daniel Nicinski (Brooklyn, NY) made three saves for the shutout, none bigger than his stop on a skipping low shot from Neco Brett and follow-up save on Luca Campos off the rebound in the 87th minute.
Sacred Heart improves to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in NEC play and is next in action on Sunday, Sept. 30 at noon when the Pioneers host the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash.
