FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Freshman goalkeeper Robert Strain was named the Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week on Monday after going 1-0-1 in net for the Pioneers last week against Holy Cross and Stony Brook.
This is Strain's first conference honor of the season. In Wednesday's 3-1 victory over Holy Cross, Strain made three big saves to preserve the victory. On Saturday, Strain had himself a career game in the 1-1 double overtime draw to Stony Brook. Strain set a new career high with 10 saves, including a penalty kick save and four saves in the second overtime to keep the game tied.
SHU is back in action at Campus Field Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game against the Black Knights of Army West Point.
