Curras Scores First Goal of the Season While Pioneers Fall 3-1 to Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer team fell to Iona this afternoon by a final score of 3-1. The team returns to action on Tuesday Sept. 25 when the Pioneers host Stony Brook. Game-time is set for 3:00 p.m. 

SHU would be the first team to get on the board as Oscar Curras would score his first goal of the season at 13:58 to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Both sides would attempt shots on goal in the first half as SHU would fire off three compared to the Gaels seven but four of the Iona shots would be saved by goalie Robert Strain while the others would go wide or high for both sides. 

Iona would kick of the second half with an early goal at 53:51 courtesy of Najim Romero to tie the game up at 1-1. The Pioneers attempted to fire off three shots courtesy of Renan Raposo, Zander Hyltoft and Segundo Navarro but all three would either be blocked or saved heading into the 61stminute. Then at 63:53 Iona's Rory Head would score the Gael's second goal of the game to give them a 2-1 lead. The Pioneers would be unable to comeback as Iona would tally one more goal at 84:06 to eventually give the Gaels the 3-1 victory.
